HAWAII 2016: Day 11: Hamakua Coast and Waimea, Hawai'i

January 22, 2016

It's time to say goodbye to Tutu and East Hawaii for now.  We are taking a road trip to the other side of the Big Island.  Goodbye doggies next door!
 Here we go!
The Hamakua Coast - The east and "wet" side of the island, has beautiful views of the deep blue Pacific Ocean.  Growing up Mommy would see whales spouting and jumping along the coast on their migration journey. Tourists pay a lot of money to see that!  Daddy wants to buy a house along the coast for us.  Tutu lives in Pepeekeo which is on this coast.
In Honokaa we stopped for a bathroom break and a snack.  I had my first malasada or Portuguese donut. Yummy!
Waimea - Heading North and inland, we drove through misty, lush cattle ranch lands. I fell asleep but Mommy looked for cattle, baby calves, horses and cowboys.

Driving through Waimea town and West, the geography changes to dry lands.  This portion of the island is desert like but there are a lot of cattle that roam the open pastures.  It is also a great place to view the Waikoloa Coast and the Pacific Ocean. On most days you can see the islands of Maui and Lanai on the horizon.
